Our Roots

Nicolai was established on the legacy of its founder: Friedrich Nicolai. An eminent German publisher, author, and bookseller, Nicolai lived in the age of Immanuel Kant and the Era of Enlightenment. The fundamentals of today’s progressive society, in science, arts and culture were all impacted during his lifetime in the18th century.

Friedrich Nicolai’s heritage inspires the very same challenges we face today: freedom of thought, rational inquiry, critical thinking, and the breaking down of borders. These 18th century challenges and values are essential to our advancement beyond the 21st.

Nil admirari. Nil timere.
Nothing to admire. Nothing to fear.

— A central maxim of friedrich nicolai and the berlin Enlightenment Era 1750 - 1810

Our Approach

Our genuine motivation, beyond historical inspiration, is to find, unite, and cultivate the world’s most forceful thinkers, researchers and entrepreneurs. This is all done with one goal in mind: To provide new and lasting resources dealing with the most poignant and important issues of the present.

The Nicolai approach is built on three pillars:

  • OUR PERSPECTIVE IS INTERDISCIPLINARY AND INTERNATIONAL, WITH A FOCUS ON SYSTEMIC AND SOCIO-CULTURAL ISSUES

  • WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THE COMBINATION OF BRAINS AND BIG DATA

  • WE WANT TO PROVIDE RESILIENT OPTIONS FOR BETTER DECISION MAKING

Social Physics

Today’s major challenges in politics and society are extremely complex, and the decisions we make often linear and hasty. A thorough, interdisciplinary approach is needed, and why we believe strongly in social physics. A symbiotic relationship, where both natural and social sciences cooperate, is ideal. Our books, just like Hadron particles tested by CERN scientists, will collide and create impactful conclusions.
